Toigo Fellows meet rigorous criteria. Academic prowess is a must, as well as ambition, integrity, emotional maturity, and leadership potential. Expectations are high, not just during graduate school, but once a finance career has begun. There are programs available for:

Students entering accredited, 2-year full-time MBA programs
Students in their 2nd year of business school who were unable to apply for the Fellowship prior to business school, but who want the opportuity to affiliate with Toigo prior to graduation
Students pursuing a joint degree program directly tied to the field of finance


In order to apply for the Toigo Fellowship, you must:

Be a US citizen or a permanent resident.
Be a minority, as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor, (i.e., African American, Asian
  American/Pacific Islander, US Latino, Native American/Alaska Native and/or South Asian
  American)
Be planning a career in financial services after graduation including, but not limited to: Investment
  Management, Investment Banking, Corporate Finance (non-Investment Banking), Real
  Estate, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Sales & Trading, Research, or Financial Services
  Consulting.

2. Is a pre-MBA finance background and/or job experience in finance a prerequisite for the Toigo Fellowship program?
No. What is required is passion, drive, solid analytical skills, and an interest in developing a career in the industry. Approximately 50% of our Fellows are “career transitioners” who come from backgrounds such as engineering, the military, marketing, and consulting.

3. What if I’m not completely certain I’m interested in finance?
To qualify for the Toigo Fellowship, you must be fully committed to a career in finance, including, but not limited to: Investment Management, Investment Banking, Corporate Finance (non-Investment Banking), Real Estate, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Sales & Trading, Research, or Financial Services Consulting. If you are uncertain we suggest you hold off from applying until you are ready to commit to a career in the financial services industry.

4. If I apply for a Toigo Fellowship, does it preclude me from applying to other fellowships offered by financial services firms?
We encourage you to apply to any or all fellowships that may be of benefit to your academic career. You may participate as a Toigo Fellow, however your funding may be adjusted if more than one fellowship has been awarded to you. For further clarification, please contact the Foundation.

5. I was recently awarded a full tuition Consortium fellowship. Is there a way for me to still be a Toigo Fellow?
Yes. You will need to discuss how the funding would work with your admissions or financial aid representative, because the Toigo grant is only applicable toward tuition. In addition, we ask that you identify yourself as a “Toigo Fellow and Consortium scholarship recipient.” You will benefit 100% from the services Toigo offers, and, as a member of the Consortium, you will have access to its events as well.

6. Am I eligible for the Toigo Fellowship if I am a “January admit” to business school?

While the Foundation traditionally supports only those students entering an MBA program that begins in the fall, we handle January admits on a case by case basis.

Yes. However, you will need to show proof of admittance to an MBA program by May 1, 2008.

As long as the career you plan to pursue is finance-related, we are more than happy to consider your application for the Fellowship.

9. What about students who want to be entrepreneurs and intend to study finance as a foundation for learning about start-ups?
While entrepreneurship is something some of our Fellows and Alumni have pursued several years after graduation, our Fellowships are designed only for candidates whose primary interest is in financial careers.

Yes, as long as the opportunity you seek is finance-related, we will consider your application for the Fellowship.

1. How many applicants apply per year for how many Toigo Fellowships?

The number of applicants varies from year to year, usually between 250 and 300. From that pool, we select a class of 50-70 Fellows annually.

2. What kind of commitment is required to ensure Fellows pursue careers in finance after completing their MBA?
Fellows are required to secure both summer internships between their first and second year and full-time employment in the financial services industry after graduation. We ask all Fellows to sign a contract affirming their commitment to an internship in financial services and a full-time finance-related job for two years following graduation.

3. Do I need to send official college transcripts (i.e., must they be in a signed and sealed envelope from the registrar)? And should my GMAT scores be sent directly from GMAC?
Photocopies of your transcripts and GMAT scores are acceptable. These should be sent along with a copy of your formal letter(s) of MBA admission in one envelope no more than one week after the online application deadline.

4. What hardcopy materials do I need to send to the Foundation to complete my application and when do they need to be received?
The following materials will need to be provided by the indicated time;

The Foundation provides a merit award of $5,000 per year of study, which is applied to your tuition.
